[ before barry begins to leave his voicemail, there's a pause as he processes cisco's greeting on his phone. (can cisco create his own greeting for barry? is technology here that smart? let him take it personally on purpose just for laughs.) ]

... You're doing something more interesting than going and seeing a movie that doesn't exist on our planet? Dude! Come on!

[ later in the morning, when barry calls again, there's a pause before his voice echoes, much like an announcer in a stadium: ] Cisssscooooooooo Ramooooooooon.

Can we make that your voicemail message? That way I won't feel personally victimised.

[ he'll send him a few sound bites of cisco and vibe as well as future mr jennifer lawrence. ]

[ it's early afternoon when he calls again. ]

I dropped by your place. Where are you? Let me know where you're working, I'll come by with pizza. They've got really cool toppings today!

[ in the evening, he leaves a more clipped voicemail. ]

— Muh muh muh muh.

This is our Bat Signal. I'll keep singing it until you find me. Or call me back! Whichever comes first, chicken or egg.

[ an hour later, his message sounds less like the carefree barry and more like the one who doesn't take it lightly when his friends go missing. he can easily recall when snart had kidnapped cisco, and it doesn't sit lightly with him his friend, who's usually someone who doesn't evade his phone calls, isn't picking up. ]

[ maybe he's busy. but there's no way in hell cisco's the type to give him the cold shoulder because he's busy. ]

I've been singing this song for an hour. I'm starting to hate "Poker Face" and I'm starting to wonder if this city's not all it's cracked up to be if I can't find you. If you're in trouble, Cisco, I'm going to find you.

[ At first, Cisco didn't even realize any time had passed. He'd used the Porter to head up to Maurtia Falls in search of this café he'd heard about, then Ported back to Heropa. It's not until he checks his voicemail and sees five messages from Barry that he realizes he wasn't gone for an hour or two, he'd been gone for a whole day.

When he calls Barry back, his tail's between his legs. ]

Barry, it's Cisco-- Dude, I am so sorry. I am never using that Porter again, I swear. Just going to breach everywhere I need to go from now on. Anyway, I got lost in transit for a day apparently but I'm back now so call me?

And yes, I'm definitely making your announcer voice my outgoing voicemail message. In fact, I'm saving the audio file and doing it now.

[ is cisco even surprised within seconds of getting his voicemail (sometimes barry can't multitask, like eating a donut while trying to play some version of snake on his phone one-handed) barry calls? he doesn't even finish that donut.

forgetting he's even stuffed something in his mouth, his voice, forceful and worried, is muffled by donut: ] Are you okay?

Dude, I'm fine! [ Surprisingly so. He'd think going missing for a day would have more of an impact but he feels like nothing happened at all. ] Where are you, I'll come to you?

Oh my gosh I just saw that you're here! It's me, Kara. Er—uhhhh that is I'm hoping you remember or know me. Timey-wimey shenanigans complicate things, don't they?

( She should probably leave off there and not just go with the assumption that he might remember her, but; here she goes anyway. )

Anyway! I figured I'd say hi and that I'm really glad to see you're here. How've you been?

Kara! Hey girl hey! Yeah, I saw your name on the import directory but I wasn't sure if it was gonna be you you or another Earth you. Timey-wimey shenanigans aren't the only things messing things up around here.

I've been good, yeah. Trying to get myself settled and thinking of trying to make a name for myself as a superhero costume-and-tech guy. What have you been up to?

Oh thank Rao! True story: apparently I've been here two different times. One was me from a different point in the timeline, but the other one called herself Power Girl and her name was Karen Starr? Weird stuff. Anyway I'm really glad. Nobody from my Earth is here so far as I can tell.

( Just people who have kryptonite in their possession, which makes her antsy and annoyed in turns. )

Good. You're going to do great with that! And if you ever want some company while you're out there, just give me a call. I'm... good, more or less. A little homesick, but I've got a mystery to figure out here so at least I'll have something to do.

[ Cisco's a little confused how Kara's doppelganger can have a different name, but if she says so. ]

This thing came up last month. I've seen messages like these back in National City. About me, and my cousin. So, I'm kinda wary of them.

I've read some of what they've linked me, but I'm wondering what's really going on. This can't be the whole of it. I can't track these guys down on my own. Or verify if what's contained in the posts and broadcasts they've sent is true.

I was wondering if you'd be willing to help me with this. The ambassador—former now, I guess—of De Chima was worried about it.

[ Cisco takes his time to respond, reading over the conversation she sent him. Sounds to him like some sort of Anonymous group that's trying to stir shit. ]

You want me to look into finding out who they are? Or validating their claims?

I'm mostly interested in the latter, right now. If there's reason for people to be afraid, it'd be good to know. But to read all that, a lot of it seems like it could be hot air.

So something's definitely missing from that equation.

( She pauses, and huffs softly. ) I know it's a lot to ask. Whatever you need, just let me know.

You want to separate the real, substantial facts from the paranoia-causing myths. I get it. Yeah, that's definitely something I can work on in between my other projects.

[ He doesn't have the same network of sources here that he did back in Central City, same access to government satellites and files, but he'll see what he can do. He's still the second best hacker on Earth 1. ]

Aside from that, how've you been? Is there anyone else here from Earth 38?

Yeah! So that I can circulate what's actually the truth and prevent people from being afraid for nothing; or let them know what to be wary of and why. Thank you so much! I owe you one.

( And she knows that, too. Along with the fact that he's one of the best engineers she's ever seen. He and Winn would get along so well. )

Kind of homesick, to be honest. I wish there were, but no. So I've been finding things to throw myself into and I've made some new friends! Which isn't bad at all.

How about you?

Well, it's weird. Barry's here, so there's a little bit of home. But we're somewhere where my hometown doesn't exist, and no matter what I try, I can't get back there. I've never felt so... [ He searches around for the right word. ] ...stuck, I guess. You know? I can normally open a breach to any Earth I want, but here, I can't.

I feel like I've been messed with, on a fundamental level. And I'm just trying to establish a sense of normalcy to get back from that.

Ahhhh. I know you've probably quadruple checked by now, but I can always do a fly-by and see up close? If you want. ( She nods, sighing quietly. ) I do know, yeah. So your powers can't work here, so much for the idea that this world isn't a prison, right?

If there's anything I can do to help with that, I'm here. No questions asked. I'm trying to find a new normal, too.

Because I kind of barely had one back on my Earth as it was. So maybe we can help each other out here. Knowing I'm not alone, it's helping a lot.

Nah, no need for that. I went and looked myself. The only major city in this Earth's Missouri is St. Louis. My powers still work kind of. I can open breaches, just only to other places on this Earth.

Maybe we should hang out. Have a movie night or something. I make a mean chili relleno.

Ah, so Midvale probably doesn't exist either—that's where I lived after I was adopted. Still, I'm sorry. Well—I think we can agree it beats taking a train or bus.
